Woodford Tools and the Environment
Our passion for recycling and sustainability has led to us to gain our ISO 14001 accreditation, which has been a priority for the firm for quite a long time.
We have the a clear vision of becoming the Greenest Industrial suppplier in South East England and we would like to encourage our customers and suppliers to join us in this remarkable task by taking every action to reduce landfill waste and use energy in an efficient manner.
Woodford Tools is an office-based organisation and the nature of the business is the supply of an extensive variety of goods to our clients, for which we also need to receive goods from our suppliers, by means of vans, cars and third party courier companies. As such our direct impact on the environment is limited to the energy and paper we use and the deliveries we make to cater for our clients. We call this our direct impact on the environment.
As well as our direct impact on the environment, there may also be what we call an indirect impact. For example, because we source goods for companies in the Engineering, Construction, Aerospace and Motor sectors we are involved indirectly in operations which can be harmful to the environment.
We are a low risk-low impact company, nevertheless we take our environmental impact very seriously, and we are currently assessing our direct carbon footprint. As an ISO 14001 committed company, we are always looking at ways to reduce our environmental impact by improving our operations’ efficiency.
Our environmental impact findings at the beginning of 2011 are:
- Average Employee business trips: 60 miles per month
- Average Electricity Usage: 237 Kwatts per month
- Average Water Consumption: 3.7 m3 per month
- Average Printing: 1,200 A4 per month
- Average Mileage: 2,400 miles per month
As part of our ongoing Environmental Management System review, we have set ourselves challenging targets for 2012 to minimise our direct impact to the environment:
- 3% to 5% water and electricity reduction
- 30% printing reduction
- 30% of current printing using recycled paper
- 10% fuel and carbon emissions reduction
There is very little we can do in relation to our indirect impact to the environment, but we always encourage our customers and suppliers to join us in this rewarding task of becoming an environmentally conscious company and become ISO 14001.
Our commitment to this quest is that we do offer ISO 14001 Consultancy Services.
